چکیده

We illustrate how the electronic charge reconstruction near the interfaces of metal–strongly-correlatedbarrier–metal devices can lead to a significant enhancement of the thermoelectric response due to the breaking of particle-hole symmetry. We show how one can achieve effective Seebeck coefficients larger than 150 μV/K and effective electronic figures-of-merit ZT higher than 1. Our work shows that electronic thermoelectric transport properties can be significantly enhanced from inhomogeneities created by the rearrangement of charge near the interfaces, and that bulk figures-of-merit cannot generically be employed to determine the figure-of-merit of a multilayered nanostructure.

Many-body effects on the capacitance of multilayers made from strongly correlated materials

Recent work by Kopp and Mannhart [J. Appl. Phys. 106, 064504 (2009)] on novel electronic systems formed at oxide interfaces has shown interesting effects on the capacitances of these devices. We employ inhomogeneous dynamical mean-field theory to calculate the capacitance of multilayered nanostructures. These multilayered nanostructures are composed of semi-infinite metallic leads coupled via a...

Coefficient of Performance Optimization of a Single Stage Thermoelectric Cooler

In thermoelectric coolers (TECs) applied external voltage potential is generated to a temperature difference based on the Peltier effect. Main and basic structure of TECs is in the form of single stage device. Due to the low efficiency, especially low coefficient of performance (COP) of thermoelectric coolers, optimal design of geometrical parameters of such devices is vital. For this purpose, ...

Right sizes of nano- and microstructures for high-performance and rigid bulk thermoelectrics.

In this paper, we systematically investigate three different routes of synthesizing 2% Na-doped PbTe after melting the elements: (i) quenching followed by hot-pressing (QH), (ii) annealing followed by hot-pressing, and (iii) quenching and annealing followed by hot-pressing. We found that the thermoelectric figure of merit, zT, strongly depends on the synthesis condition and that its value can b...

Electronic charge reconstruction of doped Mott insulators in multilayered nanostructures

Dynamical mean-field theory is employed to calculate the electronic charge reconstruction of multilayered inhomogeneous devices composed of semi-infinite metallic lead layers sandwiching barrier planes of a strongly correlated material that can be tuned through the metal-insulator Mott transition . The main focus is on barriers that are doped Mott-insulators, and how the electronic charge recon...
